Category: Historic Theater Roof Replacement & Technical TPO Integration
Hollywood Theater Modern Protection for a Historic Icon.
Technical Snapshot
- Location: Cincinnati, OH
- Building Type: Historic Theater / Entertainment Landmark
- Total Size: Approximately 80 Squares (8,000 sq. ft.)
- Primary System: High-Performance .060 mechanically attached TPO Membrane
- Substructure Components: Multi-Layer Carlisle Polyisocyanurate Insulation (Staggered Seams)
- Specialty Scope: Historic Central Light Well Restoration & Bilco Roof Hatch Integration
Safeguarding an entertainment landmark demands a roofing partner who balances heavy industrial waterproofing with an absolute respect for historic geometry. For the Hollywood Theater project in Cincinnati, the Globe Iron crew executed a total deck-down replacement—installing a high-efficiency mechanically attached TPO network while meticulously preserving the building’s structural slope and historic central light well.
Restoring the Integrity of a Legacy Structure.
Historic commercial structures often feature unique architectural components—like interior light wells—that become massive leak liabilities if skipped by high-volume contractors. The true challenge of the Hollywood Theater was performing a complete tear-off while protecting the antique framing below.
Deck-Down Structural Preparation
We don’t hide structural issues under new material. Our crews stripped the legacy system cleanly down to the original wood decking, performing a rigorous inspection and deck preparation to ensure the theater’s original slope remained sound before any new components were deployed.
Staggered Multi-Layer Insulation
To permanently eliminate thermal bridging and support roof drainage, we engineered a multi-layer insulation footprint utilizing premium Carlisle polyisocyanurate boards. By meticulously staggering the panel seams, we maxed out the building’s thermal performance and eliminated energy gaps.
Light Well & Access Engineering
The building’s historic central roof light well required a surgical overhaul. We completely mirrored the main roof’s heavy-duty TPO assembly inside the light well, fortifying the entire perimeter with custom prefinished gravel-stop edge metal, custom pipe boots, and a premium integrated Bilco roof hatch for bulletproof weather tight access.
Sealed Performance. Preserved Architecture.
Once the heat-welded seams of the .060 TPO membrane were inspected and verified to manufacturer specifications, Globe Iron delivered a pristine, continuous waterproof shield over the theater. By self-performing both the heavy TPO installation and the custom edge metal fabrication, we successfully eliminated the coordination gaps that plague commercial builds—leaving this Cincinnati landmark fully armored for the long haul.
